The massive salt deposit and exploitation of this wealth over several centuries have created a specific landscape in the northeastern part of the city, about 2 km from the center, known as the Baile Sarate salt depression.

The exploitation of salt, the karstification process of the salt massif, and the landslides have favored the formation of numerous lakes, in different stages of evolution. Some lakes, especially the anthropogenic ones located on the site of former salt mines, are used by the population for therapeutic purposes or for recreation. The salt concentration of the lakes varies. The high content of salt and other elements gives them exceptional therapeutic properties. In this regard, the most interesting is Lake Roman, on which the municipality beach has been established, Lake Tarzan, and the chain of lakes on the Sarata Valley, to the west of the Baile Sarate depression, known as Durgau. The waters of these lakes, chloro-sodium, bicarbonate, calcium, and magnesium, are indicated for conditions of the locomotor system, the peripheral nervous system, and for gynecological conditions.

Another remarkable therapeutic factor in the area is the mineralized mud (silt). This mud is located 0.5-1 m deep under the alluvial layer and is used for therapeutic purposes as unguents followed by heliotherapy, in an unorganized manner, or as wraps within the spa treatment center.

The most frequent place for recreation in this area is the beach, which attracts a large number of locals, as well as people from Cluj and Campia Turzii, during each summer season. The current form of the beach dates back to 1952-1953 when the lake was concreted and divided into four depth zones.
